Okay, I’m about as “basic” as basic can get. So it should come as no surprise that I love pumpkin. I had an existential crisis when we went to the pumpkin patch this year (if you’re in the Monterey area – Earthbound Farms, OK). The roadside pumpkin patch had dozens and I mean dozens of pumpkin varieties. Blue Kabocha, Porcelain Doll Pink, Cinderella, Green Stirped Cushaw and Long Island Cheese? What? I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m more excited to cook with pumpkins, rather than carve.
So, I challenge you to pick out some weird pumpkins and experiment with recipes. It turns out you can make A LOT of homemade puree, so say goodbye to those sad cans.
