For anyone who has seen HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” your perception of Monterey is likely distorted through the shades of heavy, gray fog and a moody, melodramatic color scheme. While Monterey can appear this way most mornings, if you live here you know our best kept secrets: the fog usually burns off by lunch time and we’re surrounded by beautiful wildflowers.
Case in point – Pacific Grove in the spring. This cozy waterfront town just south of Monterey (quite literally – just a few steps), transforms into a purple oasis every spring. We somehow missed the memo last year, I’m not sure how, but the ice plant known as the “drosanthemum floribundum” blooms a magnificent, magenta color. Dubbed the “magic purple carpet,” the color lights up the entire coastline.
We finally managed to snap a few photos last week – and these hardly do it justice.
