My Ultimate”Nesting” To Do List

My due date is one month away and I am freaking out officially nesting ! I’ve spent the last several weeks wrapping up freelance work, handing off projects and freeing up my calendar for this. It’s beginning to feelΒ veryΒ real.

From the moment we found out we were expecting, I knew I needed some free time before the baby gets here. Since I started freelancing in June 2018 I have not stopped. I’ve taken a few long weekends here and there, but no major breaks or vacations. Turns out when you’re self-employed, you don’t get paid vacation (ha). And I am tired. But I also feel so lucky that I can afford to take this precious time for myself.

We’ve been making progress over the last few months, but there’s still a lot of little things to do before Baby Davis makes his appearance! I thought it might be helpful if I share my personal “nesting to do’s” and solicit any advice from fellow mamas out there:

In the Nursery:

  • Order crib mattress, fitted sheets
  • Container Store haul – nursery closet organizers, storage drawers (inspiration here)
  • Wash all baby clothes (washcloths, sheets, towels, blankets, swaddles)
  • Sterilize bottles and pacifiers
  • Double check registry for smaller, misc items to purchase
  • Research postpartum items/must haves (nipple butter, witch hazel, ice packs?)
  • Research “hospital bag” items and pack before due date (blog post is coming)

Around the House:

  • Deep clean house (dust, dust, dust)
  • Wash car, disinfect and vacuum seats
  • Install car seat and get it checked
  • Assemble stroller
  • Set up “baby station” downstairs (diapers, wipes, changing mat, onesies)
  • Set up “breast feeding station” with supplies, pump, nursing bras, etc.
  • Finish up guest room/office, organize filing cabinet with emergency/legal documents
  • Winterize the house (order heating oil, check gutters/drains, etc.)
  • Do all the laundry (towels, duvet cover, pillow shams, guest bedding, rugs)
  • Deep clean bathroom, bathtub and prepare for baby
  • Clean out old make-up, replace toiletries and order items in bulk
  • Prepare freezer meals
  • Costco haul + restock pantry, refrigerator
  • Clean out kitchen and make extra space

Misc.:

  • Attend prenatal classes: infant CPR, birth class
  • Set up a pediatrician
  • Research lactation consultants
  • Organize emergency contact numbers, birth plan
  • Create hospital stay playlist
  • Schedule newborn photo shoot
  • Finish thank you cards
  • Keep car full of gas, phones charged
  • Contact Tricare to confirm process for adding newborn to insurance
  • Book personal appointments leading up to due date (i.e. haircut)
  • Book appointments for Lady – grooming, teeth cleaning

OK – I think that about covers it! Mamas out there, I’d love to know if I’m missing anything. Comment below!
